Meadowood Mall

Meadowood Mall is a large super-regional mall with a range of retailers and restaurants on a single floor. It includes 125 businesses and restaurants selling anything from clothing to electronics and cosmetic items.
Most restaurants here are food court alternatives, with 12 fast-food establishments. Five drink and snack options are available throughout the mall, plus the on-site Cheesecake Factory offers a full sit-down restaurant. You may experience it a few kilometers south of the city center.

Meadowood Mall was opened in March 1979 with Liberty House, JCPenney, and Macy’s as its anchor stores. The following year, Macy’s South moved in after Liberty House was closed in 1983. In 1989, the Meadowood mall added Copeland’s Sporting Goods Superstore as a fourth anchor store. In 1995, Sears was added as a fifth anchor to the mall and additional in-line stores. The Palms Food Court was also added at this time, though it has since been renamed following the mall’s 2013 remodeling.
In 2006, Copeland declared bankruptcy, and Sports Authority purchased the company. Although Sports Authority has a stand-alone store less than a kilometer away from Meadowood Mall, they decided to re-brand the mall’s store. Having two stores in such proximity proved too costly to keep both open, so the decision was made to close the Meadowood location.
In 2013, it underwent some cosmetic improvements and added some inline extensions. In 2016, Dick’s Sporting Goods was added as a newly constructed anchor position. Seritage Growth Properties was formed in 2015 after 235 Sears Holdings’ properties were split off. One of the many properties included in this spinoff is Meadowood Mall. Meadowood Mall consists of 125 stores, a food court, and a full-service restaurant.
Sears announced the closure of 42 stores countrywide on April 20, 2018. The affected store in our mall closed in July of this year. Seritage, the company that owns the property, intends to lease half of the former Sears’ first floor to Round One Entertainment.
Expansion in 1995
Despite upgrades, neighboring Park Lane Mall has been unable to compete with Meadowood Mall and has been losing tenants for several years.
The Taubman Company, which owned the Mall then, recognized an opportunity and capitalized on the situation. The company enticed numerous tenants from Park Lane Mall as part of an expansion project, thereby increasing its profitability.
After much anticipation, Sears finally opened its doors to shoppers at the mall’s north end. The new two-story anchor store brought a fresh look to the mall and a new corridor and inline store spaces. The Palms Food Court was also built as part of the extension, providing shoppers with 12 different dining options.
Ownership Changes
The Taubman Company ran the mall for the first 2 decades after it was built. In 1998, however, the company traded ownership of the mall to the General Motors Pension Trusts in exchange for shares in the corporation that owned the mall.
In April 2004, the Mills Corporation purchased the mall from the General Motors Pension Trusts.. However, in 2007 Simon Property Group purchased it from them.
2013 Modernization
Despite being the region’s only enclosed mall, Meadowood Mall has been trailing in shopping destinations since the 2006 opening of the upmarket Summit Sierra Marketplace the south of Reno and the 2008 completion of Legends at Sparks Marina in Sparks, NV.
As a result of the Simon Properties and the mall partnership, they revealed plans for a $3.5 million redevelopment. It would offer new retailers, restaurants, and a much-needed facelift, as well as expanded lounging areas and device charging stations for all users. With this redevelopment, it is clear that Simon Properties and the mall are committed to offering their customers the best possible experience.
On 22 January 2013, it was announced that three new stores would open: Vans, Disney Store, and Forever 21.
Many of the existing tenants were transferred to larger, renovated spaces closer to the mall’s core and food court to accommodate the new redevelopment plans. This allowed new tenants to develop into large format stores established from 2 or 3 previous tenants.
The new Forever 21 shop replaced three prior tenants: Borders Express, Buckle, and Claire’s. All three of these stores were temporarily filled by other businesses in 2012: Go Games and Calendars took over Borders Express, Toys”R” Us Express moved into Buckle, and Claire’s was replaced with another store.
Buckle’s decision to relocate within the mall in 2012 was likely due to Claire’s decision to do the same, moving into their shuttered Icing brand store. Champs Sports also needed to relocate to a renovated space abandoned by Pac Sun and Kiddie Kandids; Spencer’s ended up in the former No Fear building. All of this was necessary to make way for a new H&M presence.
Pink, a subsidiary of Victoria’s Secret, has temporarily relocated its store to a new location near the center court. The new store was built next to the new Pink location and includes updated restrooms and a private breastfeeding area for mothers.
Layout
Meadowood Mall is a one-of-a-kind, round structure with a straight corridor leading to Round One. Near Round One, there is a large food court with plenty of options. Whether looking for a quick bite or a sit-down meal, Meadowood Mall has something for everyone.
The stores between the two main anchors at the mall are mostly high-end retailers, such as beauty salons, health clinics, and designer clothing stores. There are also a few restaurants and a small casino near some entrances to the mall.
Dining
The food court at the mall offers a wide variety of fast-food restaurants, with options ranging from Italian, traditional American, and Asian fare to sandwiches and desserts. With 12 different restaurants to choose from, you’re sure to find something to your taste. There are five other drink and snack options around the mall and one full-service restaurant, The Cheesecake Factory.
